In the garden

It was a long and rainy spring but I think Mother Nature is redeeming herself now with this blissful weather in Toronto. Hot without the humidity is just the way I like it. So, it seems, does my garden. It was a slow start but things are really in bloom now.
I've been snacking and cooking with many herbs, snow peas, kale, chard, lettuce and even TWO strawberries! They were like candy, so sweet.

I can see carrots, tomatoes, cucumbers, beans and beets on the way!
Most of the hard work is done in the garden. These days I just water, weed and harvest. It's a lovely way to start the day!
When my garden isn't enough I usually head out one of the MANY farmers' markets in Toronto. The full list can be found at www.tfmn.ca. Yesterday I picked up some local cherries, apples and some smoked Mackerel from the new Leslieville Farmers' Market. They had a band, activities for kids, food vendors - it was a perfect way to spend a Sunday afternoon.
